Mrs Audrey Sarich

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Audrey Sarich. Audrey has been called to Heaven in our minds, prematurely, but we are heartened that she is now reunited with her husband, Tim, of 48 years, who left us in June 2014. Audrey’s love of children led her to pursue a career in teaching. She began her career in Cudworth, Saskatchewan, and followed to Humboldt, Lloydminster, Redvers and finally, Meadow Lake, where she retired in 1995. During her tenure, she held positions of both Vice Principal and Principal; however, teaching primary school students was her true passion, and she was highly regarded amongst students, parents, and peers. When she met Tim and married in 1966, she found her true soul mate. As teachers, and then retirees together, it was apparent that they couldn’t be long without each other. Together they had two children of which she was incredibly proud – Darren (Cheyenne) and Megan (Bill). Retirement, and then grandparenthood, is where Audrey blossomed. Together, Audrey and Tim navigated the world, exploring countries she had only heard about in her youth. She continued piano lessons and practiced many crafts, including gardening, painting, scrapbooking, quilling and writing. Her Christmas letters and travel logs were famous, even amongst people she had never met. Riley and Ethan will miss their Grandmother immensely. As a primary school teacher, Audrey was the ultimate Grandmother. She never missed an opportunity to be with her grandsons, exploring nature, playing games, drawing, or simply cheering from the sidelines. Audrey always maintained a positive outlook. She would sing while she travelled and to her grandchildren. Her attitude gave her incredible strength through her own, and her husband’s, cancer. Audrey leaves behind one brother, Jim Markowski (Linda) and their children: Jamie, Tara and Ryan. Audrey was predeceased by her mother Alice (2014) and father Mike Markowski (1988). A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Serenity Funeral North Chapel, 10129 Princess Elizabeth Avenue, Edmonton, AB, at 10:00 am. In lieu of floral tributes, memorial donations may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute of Alberta, 11560 University Avenue, Edmonton, AB, T6G 1Z2.
