August Edward Rosenau

Rosenau, August (Gus) Edward died peacefully on April 14, 2015at the age of 88 in Edmonton, Alberta. August was born to August and Emma Rosenau on November 7, 1926. August was raised and educated in Chinook, Alberta. There he worked on the family farm and met and married his sweetheart Shirley Colleen (Regan) Rosenau. August was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Colleen Rosenau, brothers Walter, Harold, Ted, George, Henry and sister Helena. Those left to honor his memory include second wife Caren, son's Leonard and wife Jennifer, Lyle and wife Sheila, Carl and wife Grace, Willie (Darlene), Rodney (Roxanne), Timothy (Beverly) and Daughter Valerie (Gordon). Also left to honor his memory twenty grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and well as many longtime friends and colleagues. August left the family farm in 1955 to pursue a different career outside the family farm which took the family to Kitimat, BC where he worked at the Alcan Aluminum. In 1956 August decided to move the family back to Calgary. He was employed for a short time at USS Oil Well Supply. While employed there he met and eventually entered into the cartage and delivery business with his longtime friend Harry McQueen. After Harry decided that he would like to retire August and he mutually agreed that August would take over the business. From that point he changed the name to Rosenau Delivery and some years later changed the name to the present day Rosenau Transport Ltd. August (Gus) was presented with and Lifetime Achievement Award from the Alberta Motor Transport Association for his dedication to the transportation industry in Alberta. August was well recognized and respected in the transportation industry. August was very proud to be able to participate in the company`s 50th Anniversary with his sons and daughter in 2007. August was involved in many community activities, He served as president of the Southview Community, president of the Southview curling association as well as coaching baseball. August had the great joy of coaching two of his sons in baseball and taking them to numerous tournaments within the province. During his working years August and first wife Collen purchased lake front property at Alberta Beach near Edmonton, Alberta and that became their summer home. Family and friends also made this their summer vacation spot. Boating, swimming, barbeques, and campfire songs were all part of August and Colleen`s summer cottage and long lasting memories for all. Retirement came and August decided it was time to travel and so he purchased one of his three motorhomes during his lifetime. Travels took August and Colleen to all parts of the USA as well as Mexico and eventually settling in Arizona for their winters. After many years in Arizona, August and Colleen decided to go to Texas for a few winters, but eventually returning to Arizona. August and second wife Caren has enjoyed their many years of marriage together travelling, enjoying life and sharing family and friends. Many mystery bus trips, community events, community cribbage, and many card games all seemed to add up to a perfect retirement. We were all blessed to be able to share his life and he will be sadly missed by all. Visitation will be held from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm on Monday, April 20, 2015 at Serenity Funeral Service, 5311 – 91 Street NW, Edmonton, AB Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5104 Ellerslie Road SW, Edmonton, AB. A private family interment will take place on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Mountain View Cemetery, Calgary Alberta.
