Mrs. Fay Marie Wilhauk

Fay passed away peacefully at 76 years of age at Leduc Community Hospital, November 13, 2014 after a lengthy illness. Fay was born in St. Mary's Hospital in Camrose, Alberta, November 3, 1938 to Fred and Ruby Gabourie. At the age of two Fay contracted pneumonia, though surviving it damaged her lungs. Fay attended Green Grove School in Ohaton and finished high school at Bawlf, Alberta. She then attended McTavish Business College in Edmonton and received her diploma as a full fledged Receptionist including typing and shorthand. Fay was immediately given a position as receptionist including switchboard duties at St. Mary's Hospital in Camrose. Fay met her husband on a blind date in October 1956. Fay and Ben were married June 15, 1959 and resided in Forestburg, Alberta. Ben was employed by CNR and Fay followed him to Camrose, Kingman, Chip Lake, Bretona, and as the couple was raising a young daughter, Fay spent her time in the home. Fay and Ben moved to Barrhead in 1965 and Ben learned the butcher trade while Fay became his assistant, packaging meat and front end controller. They moved to Leduc in 1966 when Ben and his Dad and brothers constructed and operated Leduc Meat Packers. Fay again spent several years packaging meat and front end controller. Fay was able to retire in 1983. Fay was raised in a Roman Catholic environment and maintained her true Christian values throughout her life as shown through her beautiful smile. As a teenager, she was a member of the United Farm Women of Alberta, learning crocheting, knitting, sewing and cooking. When raising her own two daughters, she made all their clothes. She also dabbled in macrame and ceramics. Fay loved playing cards and was an amazing fisher woman. Fay will always be remembered for her compassion and beautiful smile as a Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Aunt. Fay is survived by her loving husband Ben, daughters Cathy (Randy) Gobin, Tammy (Gordon) Bateman, grandchildren Daniel, Sarah, Steven and Karlie, her loving pet Lexie, her best friend and sister Gloria, many nieces and nephews. Fay was predeceased by parents Fred and Ruby Gabourie and brothers Patrick Gabourie and James Gabourie. As per Fay\s wishes there will be no public service. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions are welcome and left to the donor's choice.
