Herman Theodor Haukenfrers

It is with much sadness in our hearts and a huge realization of loss in our lives that we have said goodbye to our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, Herman Theodor Haukenfrers. He went to be with his Lord and Saviour on the morning of May 9, 2014 at the age of 85. Herman was born in Oldenburg, Germany on Tuesday, May 29, 1928 to Hermann and Johanne Haukenfrers. He was one of seven brothers and three sisters and all but one sister immigrated to Canada. He loved having his family within driving distance. He moved to Edmonton in 1952 and was employed at CanWest Seed (later called United Grain Growers) until his retirement in 1988. He has been an active member of Central Baptist Church since 1952, although from 1960-69 he was a founding member of Salem Baptist Church. Together, with the love of his live, Helga, his wife of over 62 years, they raised their daughter Erica and son Rolf on a foundation of love. He lived his life with the priorities of God first, family second, and he will always be remembered as the man with the camera. Herman was predeased by his father and mother, his brothers, Henri and Hans, his sisters, Elfriede and Martha, his parents-in-law, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends. His memory will always be cherished by his beloved wife, Helga; his children Erica Fath and Rolf Haukenfrers; his grandchildren Rebecca (James) Tupper, Timothy (Candice) Fath, Wyanita (Matt) Seinen, Heather Fath; his great-granddaugher Taylor Joy Seinen; his step great-grandchildren Tyler Seinen, Katelyn Seinen; his sister Anni Mueller; his brothers Walter (Erika), Willi (Ruth), Manfred (Bev), Werner; his sister-in-law Helga Haukenfrers; as well as many cousins, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr Brian Wurzba for his loving care the past few years. We extend a special thank you to all the doctors, nurses and entire staff of units 51 and 43 of the Grey Nuns Hospital for their compassionate care of Herman in the past two months. He sensed your kindness and gentleness as we all did. At Herman’s request, any memorial donation you wish to make in Herman’s honor may be made to the charity of your choice. You are invited to attend the viewing to be held on Monday, May 19, 2014 from 7:30 pm to 9 pm at Serenity Funeral Service, 5311 - 91 Street, Edmonton. Commemoration Service for Herman will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Central Baptist Church, 9419 - 95 Street, Edmonton. Please join the family for a fellowship luncheon that will be served immediately following the service as there will be no interment.
