Mr. Kenneth Gordon Hodgins

It is with heavy hearts, and extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Ken Hodgins of Fort Saskatchewan on December 30, 2014 at the age of 72. Ken fought a courageous battle with lung cancer and subsequent battle with pneumonia having to succumb to his illness. He had such a positive attitude the entire 8-month journey. Ken loved Fort Saskatchewan and spent more than 40 years being involved in the community. He was a public relations guy who loved people. He was the ultimate host and everyone loved coming to Uncle Ken's pool and home. Ken will be deeply missed by his loving and always supportive wife Sandra, of 50 "wonderful" years (as Ken always said), his children Allene and Darryl (Kris), whom he was so proud of and the joys of his life, his granddaughters Amanda and Kaitlyn plus our special friend (daughter #2) Sam Steven. Ken will be lovingly remembered by his sisters Pat (Doug) Walker, Eleanor (Barry) Nolt, Karel and sister-in-law Louise. Sandra's family also loved him and will miss him - sisters-in-law Donna Winter, Barb (Jack) Drolet, brothers-in-law Chris (Heather) McLaughlin in Nova Scotia and David (Penny) McLaughlin in Manitoba as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. His parents Gordon and Mary Hodgins and his brother Ron Hodgins predeceased him. Ken will be greatly missed by a multitude of friends through his community work, including 18 years on The City of Fort Saskatchewan Council, 35 years in the Men's Wear Business, the Kinsmen Association, Fort Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce, the Golf & Curling Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and St. George's Anglican Church. Respecting our wishes, a private family service will be held in January. As per Ken's wishes a Celebration of his Life will be held in the spring (date to be announced) when his snowbird friends have returned, and when the Shell theatre in the Dow Centennial Centre is available. Our sincerest thanks are extended to the Staff of the Special Care Unit at the Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital and the staff of the ICU Unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton.
