Mildred Irene Kroening

Memorial Service Aug. 21, 2013, 1:00 P.M. Knox Evangelical Free Church 8403 - 104 Street Edmonton, Alberta Mildred Irene Kroening Mildred was born November 19, 1929 in Didsbury, Alberta, to Adam and Elizabeth Luft. She was a student at Rugby School and then worked on her parent's farm. At the age of fifteen she accepted Christ as her Savior at an evangelistic service in Didsbury. In 1953 she moved to Three Hills, Alberta, where she worked at the Prairie Bible Institute in the kitchen and then in the printing department. In 1954 she was married to Donald Kroening, pianist for the Janz Brothers Quartet radio broadcast. While they served at Prairie they were blessed with two children, Dwayne and Janet. In 1958 they responded to the call to serve the Herbert, Saskatchewan, Evangelical Free Church, where Dwight, Patty and Dale were added to the family. Until retirement in 1996, most of Mildred's life was devoted to raising a family and filling the role of a pastor's wife. Her gentle and caring spirit were always appreciated. One lady remarked, "She is the best pastor's wife we have ever had!" Together with her husband they ministered in Evangelical Free churches in Brooks, Alberta, in Canby Oregon, USA, in Edmonton, Alberta, and in 100 Mile House, B.C. Mildred also sacrificially cared for the children during the two and a half years that Don served as organist/pianist for Barry Moore crusades across Canada and abroad. During their ministry in Canby, Oregon, Mildred assisted as a cook for the lunch program at the elementary school. In Edmonton she worked in a Hudson Bay restaurant and then in the Sunday school curriculum department at the Canadian Bible Society book store (1979-1985). The Kroenings retired in Edmonton in 1996. Knox EFC has been their church home. Mildred's favorite activities included knitting, crocheting, reading, and baking. In June of 2011 Mildred had an operation for colon cancer and then received treatment at the Cross Cancer Institute. The family is very grateful for the kind and dedicated care that she received from the staff, as well as from the home care nurses and her personal physician. She was called into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Aug. 16, 2013 Mildred was predeceased by her daughter Janet Grace on April 24, 1978. Surviving are husband Donald, son Dwayne and wife Holly of Oregon City, USA, son Dwight and wife Colleen of Sherwood Park, daughter Patricia and husband Jim Waltner of Edmonton, son Dale and wife Denise of Edmonton, 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and Mildred's brothers, Wilfred Luft of Didsbury, Glen Luft of Calgary, Gordon Luft of Didsbury, and one sister Joyce Swalm of Didsbury.
