Olga Moroz

Olga Moroz (nee Zolmer) passed away peacefully at the Wetaskiwin Hospital on January 10, 2016. She leaves behind her loving husband Alexander, her son David (Janine) Whenham of Falun, her daughter Sheila (Allan) Faryna of Gleichen, her granddaughter Jasmine (Rowan) Whenham of Falun, grandson William (Kate) Whenham of Wetaskiwin, granddaughter Alison (Les) Sherrer of Wetaskiwin, and great grandchildren Libby and Ben Whenham and Owen and Kairi Sherrer of Wetaskiwin. Olga was born to hardworking homesteaders on a small farm in rural AB in 1923. She had a remarkable life, especially considering her humble beginnings. Olga loved the farm she grew up on, enjoying it again while living there in her early retirement, and cherishing visits once her son’s family took over the farm. As a girl, she was a gifted and enthusiastic scholar, graduating from high school at the top of her class. While raising two young children, Olga also enjoyed many educational challenges while helping her first husband attain his Bachelor’s degree at University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. While in Winnipeg, she was a founding member of a committee that raised funds and public support for several years before finally seeing the completion of the Charleswood Public Library. Later, in Manotick, Ontario, Olga worked as a legal secretary for almost twenty years, furthering her education again in the process and volunteering for many organizations. She eventually returned to her farm to enjoy her retirement with her second husband. After his death, she married her “one true love” Alexander, and moved to Wetaskiwin with him. Olga lived a very full life, always active and never bored. She travelled and kept friends all over the world, had a love for dancing, created award winning (literally) gardens and meals, and leaves behind a lot of people to remember her with love. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 15, 2016 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home Chapel, 4702 Northmount Dr. Wetaskiwin, AB, T9A 3T3 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, 10123-99 St NW, Edmonton, AB, T5J 3H1 or the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home Chapel, 4702 Northmount Dr. Wetaskiwin, AB, T9A 3T3
