Mr. Peter Edward Myson

MYSON, PETER Peter Myson, husband, father, friend, and perfectionist, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014. Born in Edmonton, on February 3, 1932, Pete was the baby of seven children. He spent his childhood playing baseball and hockey in the Edmonton area. His affinity for precision and perfection led him to the Army Cadets, and then into a career as a pipefitter and maintenance crewleader. While Pete loved his work and was a dedicated professional, his work was only a small part of the generous, enterprising, outdoors-loving man we remember. Early in his life, Pete somehow convinced his wife Eva to become homesteaders by acquiring and working a parcel of land near Dawson Creek B.C. which they continued to pursue for over a decade. Following that, the Alberta boy with a sense of adventure then took his family to the Philippines so he could work on an exciting project and they would have the opportunity to experience the world. He was a dedicated volunteer for causes and organizations that made people's lives better, before “paying it forward” became a catchphrase. In the 1960s he helped establish an employee credit union for the benefit of his fellow workers and proceeded to serve as its President for decades. He served the union of his chosen profession in many capacities, including as President. For over 25 years he was a dedicated fundraiser for STARS (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society), believing that everyone should have immediate medical care when they needed it regardless of where they lived in the beautiful and expansive province of Alberta. Volunteerism, professionalism and a sense of adventure were a large part of what made Pete so special, but his core strength and greatest love were his family and his friends. He will be greatly missed but will forever be the source of smiles for his wife Eva, son Curtis and his partner Louise, and daughter Paula. To celebrate Pete's life, everyone who remembers him is asked to remember him in their own way. But in the spirit of Pete's lifelong dedication to giving back, the family asks that you do an unexpected kindness to someone else. The family would like to thank the fantastic staff at the FSCH who took such great care of Pete, and of them. Dr. Gauri was a tireless advocate for Pete and the compassion of the nursing staff was a source of strength for the family. A Celebration of Peter's Life will be held on Monday, July 28, 2014 at 2:00 pm, at the Union Hall, 8302-113 Street, Fort Saskatchewan, with Fr. Jim Corrigan officiating.
