Raymond Francis Mitchell

Raymond Mitchell, father, uncle, grandfather, faithful Friend, reluctantly left this earth Sunday March 30 2014 at the age of 66. Cancer finally got him. He died peacefully without pain in his home in Sherwood Park. He was sitting in his favorite chair holding his TV channel changer. Ray was born in Toronto but he called Alberta his home. Ray got his grade 12 in London Ontario and although he always said he never went to school on Monday's or Friday's he was very proud of the 86% average. In his early twenties, shortly after his Mom passed away of a broken heart, Ray was invited to Saskatoon by his parents dearest and closest friends Bud and MaryJoan Yates. They took Ray under their wings and gave him a job in real estate and he never looked back. Ray had 3 passions in life, his family, golf and his job. Nothing brought him more joy then being in the same room as his sons, grandsons and being able to share in their laughter and lives, although just briefly. Last summer he was able to take his family to the mountains to a cabin where he first took his young sons he was now able to show his grandsons. It was a beautiful time spent together. Although his last golf game was two summers ago Ray was a seven handy cap golfer, He never did get the chance to cross Pebble Beach off his bucket list. He wanted to visit Rome and Vatican city. He would always say that on earth it was the one place you get the closest to God. two weeks ago was his last trip to his office and not being able to go to work broke his heart. Ray was very proud of the many accomplishments within the outstanding 40 yr. career in the home building business he had created. Ray was preceded in death by big bother James tragically in a car crash(1960) his father Thomas (1967) his beloved mother Georgette (1969) and more recently his big sister Denise Borbely (July 8 2013. ) Ray is survived by son Lonnie with Rebecca and their children Pearce and Read, his son James all of Sherwood Park, dearest friend and mother of his children Karen LeDrew of Edmonton, his brother in law Bill Borbely niece Catherine Lynn Borbely, nephew David Borbely 2 grand-nephews Adam and Austin all of Regina Saskatchewan. Ray was an intensely private man but was always the best dressed man in any room. He had a great sense of humour as most that knew him can attest. Words he lived by and taught to his sons, "Be on time!" "Do what you say" "Finish what you start" "Say “Please” and “Thank-You” because manners cost nothing!" Raymond loved deeply and loved for life. It is with very heavy hearts we share this news of Rays passing. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude and thanks to Dr. Elfiky, Ray was one of his first patients when he began practice in Sherwood Park, Dr.'s D. Williams and H. Seikaly for never giving up on Ray, because Ray would never give up on himself. “Never, never, never, give up” “Go Brady!” A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 13 Bower Drive, Sherwood Park, AB.

June 29, 1947 - March 30, 2014
