Sam Bundt

BUNDT, Sam born June 25, 1954 passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 2, 2014. Sam was the son of Dolores (nee Beebe) and Carl Bundt born in Carroll, Iowa. He moved to Canada in 1961 and was raised in the Bottrel area. He was the second oldest of four children. Sam married Barb Tempany on October 16, 1976 and they had three sons. Sam is survived by his loving wife Barb of nearly 38 years; his sons Jason (Mandy), Jeff (Brandy) and Matt plus nine grandchildren; Jacob, William, Brynn, Tanner, Magen, Rorie, Haly, Madison and Thad. Sam is also survived by his sister Melody (Tom)Bundt Witwer; brothers Kelly and Justin (Michelle); his mother-in-law, Cec Tempany; brother-in-law Bill (Laura) Tempany; sister-in-law Betty (Art) Frey; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, countless associates, neighbours and friends. Sam was predeceased by his father Carl in 1991, his mother Dolores in 2009, his father-in-law Gordon in 2009 and infant granddaughter Emma in 2010. Sam packed a lot into his life. He was 'salt of the earth' and loved the outdoors and the rural life. He worked 35 years for the Government of Alberta and had a career that was very rewarding. The Fish and Wildlife family is a close knit group and numerous have demonstrated their concern and respect with visits, calls, emails and texts which have all been very much appreciated. Sam's passion for rural life became a reality with the move to the Drayton Valley area in 1989. His animal husbandry was evident in stock always being well cared for. This move allowed the 'Bundt boys' to be raised in the country, participate in 4-H and learn how to work and pull together as a family. Sam was very kind but seldom missed the opportunity to tell a joke or pull a prank on someone. The twinkling blue eyes of Sam's can be recognized in each of the grandchildren. This sense of humour will be one of his legacies as will his integrity, honesty and trustworthiness. The memories of Sam will be permanently inked in the minds of all that met and loved him. His seemingly endless supply of patience with people would typically bring out the best in everyone. He faced his battle with pancreatic cancer determined to celebrate his blessings and be thankful instead of being bitter. Services will be held at the MacKenzie Conference Centre, 5745 – 45 Avenue, Drayton Valley on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Mr. Dwayne Henley officiating. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation or the charity of your choice. The family would also like to extend special thanks for the care given by the medical staff of the Drayton Valley Hospital, as well as numerous doctors and staff of the University of Alberta Hospital, the Misericordia Hospital, the Royal Alexandra Hospital and the Red Deer Regional Hospital.
